I was lucky.
In the past 4 years I heard and read a lot about combustion motors,
compressors, pumps, etc. I have conducted a thorough search of all available
patent literature in this field. Although the search in hundreds of patents, some
over 90 years old, was not always easy, I was able to find any patent
application covering my motor idea.
Last year the SGL Carbon GmbH offered to apply for a patent, if they could act
as co owners of the patent rights. For me this had a lot of benefits. This
company has their own patent department with patent lawyers, who do patent
research, patent formulation, and patent management on a daily basis. The
formulation of IP- claims is - at least for a technically minded inventor - really
hard to understand. Not to forget the patent application fees. A patent
application in Germany as well as abroad really can cost a lot of money!
Another advantage I saw in the assistance of a renown company. As a private
inventor I never had the chance to present my idea to a decision making
person.
The label RotaTorque came to my mind in the year 2005. In the end effect
every child needs a name and the thought of calling my idea the Schönrock-
motor did not really make me enthusiastic. This label is widely understandable
and consists of the word 'Rota' for rotation and 'Torque' for the extraordinary
torque, which it creates.
